On January 2nd is Hullefraansnacht (Night of Holle's Servants). It's an old tradition in the south thuringian area around Hildburghausen - in the forest village "Schnett". This tradition has a few similarities to the famous south german and alpine Perchten- and Krampus cults.

Frau Holle is an old arcane deity. Her role was omnipresent over the whole year, but remain nearly forgotten in our modern world, where she is mostly known for her appearance in the brothers Grimm fairy tale.

She appears all over the German regions under different names like Hulla, Hulda, Frau Percht(a), Frau Herke, Frau Gode, Frau Frick or Murawa to name just a few. In English her most recent names are Mother Hulda or Old Mother Frost.

The atmosphere of this album is fantastic. Makes you feel like you're knee-deep in the trenches drenched in mud, filth, sweat, and blood. Truly encapsulates the horrors of World War I, and the fact that the lyrics of some of the songs are taken from old war letters really adds to the authenticity.
