Written and recorded in summer 2013 at the House of Inkantation. Final revision and additional recordings Spring 2020. "Der Nöck" is a revisitation of "The Waterhorse" setting and refers to the german counterpart of this watersprite. The lyrics are highly inspired by a poem written by August Kopisch (1799 - 1853).

DER NÖCK

An einem geheimen Örtchen
da folgt ein kleiner Fluss
dem Wald ins Nichts

In ihm lebt das Wasserpferd
das sich von kleinen Kindern wohl ernährt

In einem kleinen Bächlein
dort ruht es tief und sacht
Bis es um Mitternacht endlich erwacht

An einem geheimen Örtchen
da gibt es einen Quell
aus dessen Born
springt nun das Ross

Der Bäume Neigen
zu leisem Schweigen
atmend horcht die Nachtigall
Es rauscht vorbei des Nöckenschall

über Wald und Himmelspacht
Ist gekommen des Wassers Macht
euer Singen wird sich rächen
das Weinen selig sprechen

Der Wald erbebet,
die Sonn entschwebet...
Der Nöck singt die ganze Nacht:

„Neck, Neck, Neck, ich Nadeldieb,
ich bin das Wasser, ihr seid das Land.
Neck, Neck, ich Nadeldieb,
ihr seit im Wasser, ich bin an Land.“
