Salt & Rain 05:05
Buried alive in a calm sea Six in a row – like a crystal wheel Soon I leave the noise and the street Ride the wind and ride the sea Sleep, for the harvest grain is gray With the hills of the barren sea to roam Housing their horses on the foam From shifting hills to the tumbling sea With the salt and rain With fire and wine Your glad desire Strong as wind and pure as fire The stars so calm and the earth is warm But the sea is given to the storm The stars so calm and the earth so warm But the sea is given to the storm Come now, inherit the house of doom The fields of the sun shall be harried in gloom

Welcome in the house of doom The red moon appear over the rim Winter twilight - crisp and dim the acres of snow were level and hard Every flake like a crystal shard Wind for a mourner, snow for a shroud Red Winter Dawn What lies hidden in the shades? ....und so wird er in die Tiefe gerissen Awake – once more The wind has come A wind upon the sea The storm has come What lies hidden in the shades The waterhorse has come

about

"The Waterhorse” is a complete demo/rehearsal recording, captured during various sessions in the year XIII. The tracks were conceived after the oracle of the Alchemysts disappeared and Martin van Valkenstijn moved on to his new homestead, the Villa Gotaha. These incantations deal with the element water; with maritime themes, mythological water sprites - like the Bäckahäst, Kelpie or Ceffyl Dŵr - as well as the mystic aura of lakes and the deep dark waters. The songs are really rough, like the sea itself, and recordings were handled in a similar way like on "Old Man's Wyntar". Every track should be seen as a snapshot: unshaped and unfinished but with a very deep atmosphere.

First published as B-Side on the audio cassette edition of "Harvest: Songs of autumnal landscapes & melancholy" in 2015/2016.
